Cellfion sets up membrane production in Norrköping

Cellfion is taking the next step towards production at scale. The company has signed an agreement to take over a production facility in Norrköping, with coating equipment that is unique in the Nordic region.

Cellfion develops membranes made from nanocellulose that can replace PFAS-based membranes in applications such as hydrogen and batteries. The company recently raised EUR 6.9 million, partly to establish its first membrane production facility in Sweden. Now it’s official: the facility will be in Norrköping.

Through an asset purchase agreement with Ynvisible Production AB, Cellfion takes over the production facility, key production equipment and experienced personnel. The specialised coating machinery enables roll-to-roll production, which makes manufacturing at a larger scale possible and shortens the path from advanced materials to market.

“The investment in Norrköping marks an important step in strengthening our membrane business and our ability to scale roll-to-roll manufacturing in Europe. The added coating technology, capacity and expertise provide a strong foundation for both current and future materials and applications,” says Liam Hardey, CEO of Cellfion.

Cellfion is a spin-off from research at Campus Norrköping (Laboratory of Organic Electronics, Linköping University) and at KTH. The company has also been part of the LEAD business incubator and is part of Norrköping Science Park’s organic electronics network.

“All of us in Norrköping are so proud to see Cellfion grow here. The investment strengthens the city’s position as a national and European centre for printed and organic electronics, and is important for our region, Sweden and the EU,” says Jonas Nilson, CEO of Norrköping Science Park.
